Five Winter Date Ideas to Enjoy at Station Park

Station Park is one of our favorite places to go for date night all year round. We love the atmosphere and being able to stay in one place for our entire date night. There are lots of great places to eat and play at Station Park, no matter the time of year! This year I want to share ideas for your date nights at Station Park for each of the four seasons. Below you’ll find a few ideas for winter fun! These are all things that we hope to do between now and the end of March when (fingers crossed) we see spring!

Winter Date Night Ideas at Station Park in Farmington

Ice Skating by the Fountains

Station Park has a fun little skating rink that’s open until early February and it’s a perfect activity for date night! Two hour skate rental is $6 for adults and if you pay with your America First Credit Union credit card or debit card, you can get half off that price.

Late Night Movie at Cinemark

Cuddling up at the movies is a great way to beat the cold weather. Cinemark recently upgraded all of their seating to luxury recliners, and it’s honestly more cozy than the couches we have at home. If you can get away on a weeknight, $5 Tuesdays is a great deal for a movie night. Grab popcorn, a drink and some concessions and cozy up together to watch one of the great movies that are out! We love bringing our own blankets to make our date a little more cozy.

Dessert at Last Course

Last Course has become one of my favorite places in the area for date night, girl’s night out and just when I need a little treat. They have a great core menu, delicious ice cream flavors and fun desserts and scoops on their creations menu that changes each month. I love the atmosphere at Last Course and it’s perfect for date night! We love adding it onto the end of our evening or making it the core activity of our date.

Dinner, Dessert or a Snack at Waffled

One of our favorite restaurants recently moved to the Eats & Treats building just east of the fountains at Station Park, and although we’re sad that it’s not by Smith’s still, closer to our house, it adds perfectly to one of our favorite date night locations. Waffled has savory stuffed waffles with soup that make a great meal, stuffed breakfast waffles and sweet waffles liege waffles that make a great treat. You can hang out inside where it’s warm or take your waffle out by the fountains under one of the heaters.

Grab a Bath Bomb from Lush

After we grab dinner at one of our favorite restaurants at Station Park, we like to wander the mall and window shop. One of our favorite stores to stop by is Lush. We love their bath bombs and find that they make a great addition to our date night. We spend some time browsing their many options, smelling them all, and then we pick one out and take it home. After the babysitter is gone, we climb into a warm bath and watch a movie together.

Drink Hot Chocolate by the Fountains

Winter is the perfect time for hot chocolate, and Station Park’s fountains have heaters around them. I love being able to enjoy the fountain shows and the music without getting too cold. We enjoyed this as part of our date night last winter and it was perfect for a warm cup of hot chocolate and some quality conversation.

Visit the USU Botanical Gardens in the Winter

We aren’t really outdoor people during the winter, so this year I’ve been looking for things that we can do outside that are fun and that we might enjoy. We don’t do much skiing or snowboarding or anything like that, so we have to get creative because that’s everyone’s first suggestion for winter fun, especially here in Utah. I’d love to say that we’re adventurous and plan to go on winter hikes or snow shoeing but we’re not that exciting at this point in our life. We’re going to take some of our favorite activities and date night locations and adjust them to fit the colder weather and snow.

Where: USU Botanical Gardens (920 S 50 W, Kaysville)
Cost: Free
Hours: Ponds and trails are open from sunrise to sunset

The USU Botanical Gardens have become one of my favorite places in Davis County. I love the calm piece of nature that’s right in the middle of town. Until this year, I’d never really seen it in the winter, but I think it’s almost more gorgeous when it’s cold than during the summer or fall. The pond freezes in places and everything is covered in snow. I’ve seen people fishing there, even when it’s cold and there’s a paved trail around the pond that you can walk on. You have a great view of the mountains and might catch glimpses of ducks and other wildlife that frequent the area.

The gardens would be a fun place to spend walk and talk on a sunny winter day. It’s a quiet trail close to eating establishments and a freeway entrance. Make an entire date out of spending time at the gardens or include it as a portion of your date.

Create Your Own Davis County Date Night Bucket List

A few years ago we put together our first date night bucket list, and we've created a new one every single year since. Having a list of activities we wanted to do and places we wanted to eat made coming up with what we were going to do for date night each week just a little bit easier. We've loved it so much, even when we haven't quite completed our list, that we've decided to make it an annual tradition in our marriage. This year we're making our bucket list specific to Davis County and I wanted to share it with you! But before I do, I thought it might be helpful to give you a few tips to creating your own.

Create a Bucket List for Date Night in Your Hometown

1. Make a list

Sit down together and make a list of all of the restaurants, activities, attractions, etc. that you have always talked about doing together. We like to keep ours on a shared Google Spreadsheet so that either of us can add to the list at any point in time. As you find new things to do, add them to your master list.

2. Divide the list into categories

Create categories depending on the types of things that you've included on your list. I've chosen to break ours up based on the date night types here on the site; play, dine, see, relax, romance, free/on a budget, at home and worth the trip. Some other ideas for categories might be kid free, family date night, active dates, dessert, season/holiday specific, etc. I try to rotate through the types of dates to add some variety to our date night routine.

3. Pick six to ten dates from your list

Choose your top date night ideas and use them to create a Date Night Bucket List for the coming year. I've found that committing to more than one date every month or two can be a little overwhelming. If you have restaurants on your list, you could pick one per month or one every other month so that you're sure to have time for your favorites. If you have a good date night routine going and know that you have time to cross more off of your list, add more!

4. Put your date nights on the calendar

The last couple of years I put our bucket list dates on my "to do" list for the month that it seemed most fitting for. This definitely brought more success as we worked to cross everything off of our bucket list. The year that we didn't do this, those date night ideas sat on our list and were forgotten about after a few months or until we were past the event or seasonal activity that we wanted to participate in.

*Tip* You can refer back to your master list for other dates throughout the year, even if they're not on your official bucket list for the year. That master list is a great resource for when you're having an "I don't know, what do you want to do?" emergency or those times when you want to surprise your partner for date night. If you're planning a surprise date night, try picking something from the list you know they really want to do or that they added to the list since the last time you two talked.

Now for my favorite part, our bucket list for the year! I had the hardest time narrowing down our master list, and this bucket list is bigger than I'd usually set, but that's because of this little space and the content and date ideas that I want to provide for you. And those dates that we don't get to this year will be great for future years. We still have an entire list of date night locations to pull from for other dates as well. Having these different activities to look forward to makes date night that much more exciting and motivates us to make date night a priority, no matter what our schedule looks like each week.

9 Ways to Celebrate the New Year in Davis County

We usually keep our New Year's Eve celebrations low key and stay home because we have young kids and don't want to take our babysitters away from the fun activities that they have planned. I have grand ideas for fun in future years and even a few overnight getaways as a couple and as a family. This year, we're hoping to do a couple of the things on this list, as our kids allow. For those of you who are looking for date night fun this weekend, we've compiled a list of almost 10 different things going on in the area that sound like a great way to celebrate everything you've accomplished in 2018 and look forward to 2019.

Elk Viewing and Wagon Ride at Hardware Ranch

For a small fee, you can take a wagon ride and view the elk up close and personal. This is a fun activity for the family or a date. Rides are $5 for adults (9 and older) and $3 for children (4 through 8), kids 3 and younger ride for free. On your way home, we recommend a stop in Perry to eat at Maddox Ranch House, their rolls are amazing!

Top Golf

We enjoyed our brunch date to Top Golf this year and are really looking forward to more dates in the future. This year they're putting together an unforgettable midnight celebration with golf and delicious food leading up to it. The New Year’s Eve package includes unlimited game play from 9pm to 1am for up to six guests, midnight fireworks and party favors to ring in the new year. Book your bay soon if you’re hoping to be there!

Spend the Day in Midway

With the gross inversion that we get here in the Salt Lake Valley, it can be nice to escape to the mountains for a day or two. We love heading to Midway because there are lots of great things to do and cozy places to stay if we decide we aren't ready to come home yet. The Midway Ice Castles are gorgeous during the day or at night, Soldier Hollow has the longest tubing lanes in Utah with a lift service to tow you back up the hill, The Crater at Homestead Resort offers a warm escape from the snow, and Wildfire Smokehaus at Zermatt Resort is one of our very favorite places to eat.  All of the activities are open during the day and at night and are fantastic experiences! Make a day of it or ring in the new year and celebrate with an overnight stay.

Midway Ice Castles

Whatever you do to ring in the New Year, make time for date night and each other! Sit down together and set some goals for date night in the new year and don't forget to make plans for the other things that you'd like to accomplish. Oh, and be sure to grab your New Year's kiss ;)
