We received a complimentary dinner in exchange for this honest review.
When I first shared that a new restaurant, Al's Cafe, was opening just a block away from our house, I received a message from one of my followers telling me that Al was a friend from their church congregation and that his food was the best. In the two weeks between his opening and when we stopped in for date night, I continued to see people sharing photos from their visit to Al's Cafe and I knew that we were in for a good experience.
From the minute we walked in the door, we were welcomed by Al and his staff as if we were a long time friend. I can honestly tell you that it wasn't special treatment because we were there for this review because every single person who came in the door while we were there was treated the exact same way. I know that when you go to Al's, you'll feel as at home as we did. Al's Cafe is an experience, and it's one that you'll want to enjoy over and over again.
Everything that you order from Al's is homemade there in the restaurant. The sauces, all of the meat, the noodles, everything is purchased fresh and homemade. I also loved that Al has told his food suppliers that he won't start ordering anything new from them unless his customers have tried it and approved of it first. Al is very passionate about the work that he does and the food that he makes and he does not cut corners anywhere. As a result, his food is high quality and something that people will come back for time and time again.
My biggest tip for you would be to come hungry! We had the hardest time deciding what to order and wish that we could have tired it all. Like I said before, it's a good thing we live close so that we can come back again. We decided to split two dishes so that we could both try them and we split an appetizer as well. Al serves generous portions and we had enough to eat as leftover for lunch the next day as well. It was all just as good the second time around!
Let me tell you about everything that we had to eat! We started with an appetizer of 4 count Lumpia, which are like spring rolls. I LOVED these and the red chili sauce that was brought out for us to dip them in was an amazing addition. I may crave these and pick up an order to go on a weekly basis from here on out. The first entree that came out was one of their specials, the Orange Chicken, and we ordered that with a side of Pancit and vegetables. Order the Pancit, you won't regret it!
All of the staff highly suggested that we order one of the Breakfast Wraps, so that came out as our second entree. This wrap is where it is at and we suggested it to another couple who came in the door after we'd started eating ours. We ordered the wrap with adobo chicken, eggs, garlic rice and cheese. The wrap was huge, as big as the plate, and is definitely something that you could split between two people and call it a meal. We will always go back for the breakfast wrap, and because Al's Cafe is located so close to home, we can pick it up for Saturday morning breakfast at home with the kids sometime.
One of the other specials was Chicken Curry and came highly recommended by the cook and another restaurant patron. Al told us a story of a customer who came in after they'd opened and asked him how spicy he could make the curry. This customer told Al that he'd been to three our four other places around town who all claimed to have spicy curry and he always left disappointed. He gave Al the ok to make his plate of curry as spicy as it could get. Al said that within minutes of taking his first bite, there was sweat streaming down this customer's face and he gave Al two thumbs up and a huge smile. But don't worry, if you're not a fan of spicy, Al can do mild too.
Make sure you follow Al's Cafe on Facebook for daily specials and photos of more of his delicious food.
