I planned our date night the weekend before Valentine's and decided that we would head north to try a restaurant and activity that we've been wanting to visit for a while. Our dinner stop was Slackwater Pub & Pizzeria. I've seen multiple people posting their food online after visiting Slackwater and I've been jealous of every single one. Now I can say that we've tried it for ourselves!
Where: 1895 Washington Blvd., Ogden
Cost: $12-$15 per pizza, ~$10 per sandwich/salad
We picked a busy weekend to go to dinner, and a very popular place to eat. There were a few dances the weekend we went and I'm sure a lot of people were out celebrating the holiday, like us. Slackwater is a fairly large restaurant with lots of seating, but we had about a 30 minute wait. We didn't mind the wait, but my only frustration was that there wasn't anywhere for people to wait to be seated. There was a small area next to the hostess station, but if more than a handful of people stood there at one time, they were encroaching on the people seated at the bar, which was full of people waiting to be seated as well. Slackwater provides a couple of games outside the front door but it was really chilly that night, so everyone preferred to wait inside.
Once we were seated, the service and food were great! Our waitress took our order quickly and the food didn't take long to get to our table. We were in a hurry to get to our activity for the evening so we weren't able to sit back and relax as much as I'd liked to. We got a late start to our evening and then had that wait when we got to the restaurant. The atmosphere was fun and there was live music that evening. We enjoyed the time that we did have in the restaurant and hope to go back soon so we can enjoy the restaurant even more.
We decided to start our meal out with the Spin-Art Dip, which is a spinach dip with cream cheese and roasted peppers in it. It was delicious! Spinach and artichoke dips are my favorite and this one had all of my favorite flavors, plus a few more added for extra deliciousness. I was just disappointed when it was gone.
We weren't feeling super hungry that night, so we ordered one pizza to share. Creatures of habit, we ordered our favorite pizza topping combination on the Pig + Pina. Marinara sauce, ham, peppered bacon and pineapple. I think my favorite part was that the pineapple was fresh. None of that canned stuff, it was fresh and flavorful which gave the pizza a little extra tang to it, like fresh pineapple does. We loved it and finished the entire pie!
Having not ventured north very often in the past, our experiences with eateries in Ogden have been great so far and we can't wait to try more. But first, I think we need another trip to Slackwater to fully enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Next time we'll be sure to come hungry and order two or three different pizzas to try. Plus, come with room for dessert.
