I don't remember when I went to my first Deer Valley Music Festival concert, but I do remember that I fell in love immediately and have looked forward to going each year. When our toddler was one, we took him with us when my family invited us and he loved it just as much as we did. I look forward to the announcement of their concert line up every year and have my eye on a few shows this summer season. I think this would make the perfect date night if you're looking to get out of the heat or do something a little different this summer.
Where: Deer Valley Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater (2250 Deer Valley Drive, Park City)
Cost: Varies by concert
There are a lot of great concerts on the schedule for Deer Valley this summer. The ones that I'm most excited about are Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration, Broadway Hits by Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber, ABBA the Concert, Kristin Chenoweth with the Utah Symphony, and The Music of John Williams. There is a concert with music to fit any taste and they're always a lot of fun.
Three Tips for a Great Date Night with the Symphony
Get There Early and Bring Games
The gates open two hours before the performance begins and you'll want to be there when the gates open, especially if you have grass seats. Lawn seating is general admission, first come first serve and they prefer if you don't save too many seats near you. We love to get there early, enjoy our dinner, walk up and bring some card games to play together or conversation starters to talk through. It's a fun place to talk and people watch as well.
Pack a Picnic Meal and Snacks
They have concessions for sale at the venue, including a gourmet picnic meal for one option. They also allow outside food and drink and to me, this is the most fun. We like to pack our own gourmet picnic with sandwiches or bagels or cold fried chicken, veggies, fresh fruit, chips and desserts. We pack enough to snack on throughout the show and always have a few things that we'd never usually buy but really enjoy eating. If you're going with a group, a batch of muddy buddies, the big bag of cheddar/caramel popcorn, or trail mix is always a fun thing to bring.
If you're looking for an especially romantic evening, pack your picnic a little fancier.
Make a Night of It
Because the concert is a ways from home and can go pretty late, it might be a good idea to turn your date into an overnight date. The Park City area has some great places to stay overnight, some right next to the venue, so you wouldn't have to fight traffic. There are a lot of fun activities in the Park City area as well, so you could even make a weekend of it.
I'm currently planning a girl's night to see Kristin Chenoweth in concert this summer and am hoping to plan a date night for my husband and I or a family night to one of the other concerts. Outdoor concerts are one of my favorite parts of summer, and these are high quality.
