Summer Date Night Ideas in Davis County

Scenic Sunset Hike

We completed this date a couple of weekends ago as part of our anniversary celebration weekend. We took the Wild Rose Trail to one of the scenic overlooks, but there are many trails around Davis County with great views of the sunset at night. Be aware of difficulty and bring a flashlight so you can hike safely back down the trail after the sun has gone done. Be sure to let someone know where you’ll be going and when you plan to be back, then check-in when you complete your hike, to stay safe. Click here for a great map of the trails in Davis County.

Breakfast Picnic Date

Summer mornings are perfect for a picnic! Grab breakfast from home or a local eatery and take it to your favorite park to enjoy before the temperature gets too high. We love Waffled, Caffe Torino, and Blue Lemon for breakfast. If it’s the weekend, our favorite Tortilla Union and their neighbor, Twigs, are now serving brunch as well. You could eat out on the patio at any of the locations mentioned above as well, for a makeshift picnic experience.

Watch Fireworks

Firework shows are probably my favorite part of the summer and Davis County has plenty of them! Most will happen the week of July 4th, but a few are scattered throughout the month until after Pioneer Day. This post has a list of all of the shows in Davis County and will be updated annually to share details for the current year.

Get Ice Cream

There’s no better way to cool off during the summer than with a date night to get ice cream! Bountiful finally has a rolled ice cream location on Main Street, Blacksmith Ice Cream Co. If you want something classic, you can grab a concrete or frozen custard from Nielsen’s Frozen Custard in Bountiful or Layton. Last Course has delicious ice cream flavors and you can sample as many of them as you want before you choose one to order! We also love a hot fudge sundae or a simple blizzard from one of the local Dairy Queen locations.

Dinner at a Food Truck Event

I love grabbing dinner at a food truck event because you can try a variety of things, share meals and satisfy both of your cravings without stopping at multiple locations. This post shares all of the best roundups in Davis County and will be updated annually as new regular roundups are added.

Cuddle Up for Movies in the Park

One of my favorite things to do on a cool summer night is to cuddle up in a pile of blankets and watch movies outside. We do this in our backyard a lot, but I also look forward to local outdoor movie events. Check out this post for all of the events going on this summer around the county! We have our eye on a couple that would be perfect for a date night activity.

Attend an Outdoor Summer Concert

Local talent is highlighted in concerts across the county all summer long. Take a picnic, or grab food at one of the food trucks in attendance and enjoy music accompanied by the sounds of summer around you. Click here for a list of free outdoor concerts in the area this summer.

Worth the Trip

Full Moon Lift Ride

Last year we crossed something off my date night bucket list and took a romantic lift ride up the mountain under the light of the full moon. It’s a bit of a drive to Sundance, where this event takes place once a month, but it is definitely worth the trip! Click here for more details from our date last year!

What are your favorite summer date night activities?

Davis County Movies in the Park - Summer Date Night Idea

Movies in the park are one of my favorite things about summer. I love bringing treats and settling down on blankets in the park to enjoy a movie with all of my friends and family. I used to go to movie in the park every week before we got married. It's harder to do now that we have kids, and even harder to justify paying a babysitter to stay with them while they're sleeping at home and we're out on a free date. I can't wait for the days when our kids are older and we can keep them up late for movies in the park without the consequences that we'd have doing that now when they are toddlers. Until then, I'm hoping we can catch one or two of these this summer and plan on enjoying outdoor movies in our own backyard.

Where to Celebrate International Sushi Day in Davis County

International Sushi Day is this coming Tuesday June 18th and I wanted to give you enough notice that you could celebrate with a date night over the weekend if you want. Like most random holidays, there is a real purpose behind . The purpose of this holiday is to raise awareness about the truths and fiction surrounding sushi.

Location: Restaurants around Davis County
Cost: Varies - see price range by restaurant below

Confession: I've never been a huge sushi fan, but the truth is, I've only tasted it once and it was years ago. I made it a goal to try it again last year and couldn't do it. So if you have suggestions for what type of sushi we should try first, please send them my way!

10 Date Night Ideas for Celebrating Dad in Davis County

My love language is quality time so one of the best gifts that my husband could give me is a date night out together. When it comes time for his birthday or Father's Day, I like to plan a special date just for him, because spending time alone together is one of the ways that I show love, but also because quality time is right up there at the top of his love languages as well.

I think that date nights are a great way to thank your husband for being your partner in parenting and helping you create and raise your cute kiddos. If you can get away together in the few days leading up to or after Father's Day, I suggest planning a date night using one of the ideas below!

Date Night Ideas for Father's Day

Food Truck Roundups

The thing that I love about food truck roundups is that you can get a variety of different foods and try them all. There's also no arguing over where to go and whose cravings are the most important, so even though you're celebrating your husband, you can still get something that you want to eat as well ;) There is a food truck to fit both of your dinner desires. Click here to find a food truck roundup near you.

Outdoor Adventure

If the two of you are outdoorsy and adventurous, tailor your date night fun to that. Explore one of the area's many trails, go geocaching, take a walk through the botanical gardens or one of the many nature trails in the heart of our county, or go fishing. Pack a picnic and make a day of it! If you're feeling extra excited about the outdoors, you could make an overnight of it and go camping.

Fishing Date

Most men love to fish and would love to spend a morning or late afternoon relaxing next to the water with you and maybe the kids too. Click here for a list of the best fishing ponds in Davis County.

Car Show

Every year on Father's Day weekend, the Bountiful Rotary club puts on a free Car Show to benefit their Coats for Kids fundraiser. There are cool cars, yummy food trucks and fun activities for the whole family. The car show takes place on Bountiful Main Street starting at 5pm on Friday night, then moves to Bountiful Park for Saturday’s activities.

Steak Dinner

Take your husband out for a good steak dinner or grill one at home. Mo Bettah Steaks (Bountiful), Texas Roadhouse (Bountiful and Layton), Parkstone Wood Kitchen (Farmington),  Corbin's Grille (Layton), and Outback Steakhouse (Layton) are all great locations to get a quality steak dinner in Davis County.

Tickets to a Future Event

I mentioned grabbing tickets or a gift card to see a play or musical in the future, but that can be applied to any event. I recently grabbed tickets for our favorite comedian who's coming to town at the end of the year. His performance is seven months away, but I'm excited to surprise my husband with a date night out that's a little bit of a splurge for us. No matter your budget, I know you will be able to find an event that the woman in your life would love to attend. If tickets aren't required, but you want to plan it as a date, make up your own "ticket" and gift it to her to let her know it's in the plans.

Laughter

Research has shown that couples who laugh together are happier across the board. It seems obvious when I type it all out. Some of our most memorable date nights have been ones when I remember laughing together, whether it was at a comedy routine, over a movie or just sharing stories and jokes with each other. We've loved late night dates to The Improvables, right here in the community. We also loved going to Wiseguys on a date earlier this year and love that they have a two for one ticket deal to make it a cheaper price.

Father's day celebration ideas

Golfing

Click here to check out the Davis County Golf Passport from Play in Davis. If a full round of golf out on the course isn't your thing, try mini golf. Cherry Hill in Kaysville, Boondocks in Kaysville and The Rush Funplex in Syracuse (glow-in-the-dark mini golf) are all great locations for mini golf.

Family Date Night

Activities out as a family are always a lot of fun, and what better way to celebrate the mother in your life than by involving the kids? Dartside in Layton, mini golf and pocket pies at Cherry Hill, an afternoon at Station Park or a visit to the Seaquest Aquarium are just a few ideas to get you started.

Dessert

This would be a great way to end the day when you've been on a family date or doing something with the kids. We've enjoyed dessert at home, like our very favorite cookie skillet. There are a lot of great dessert locations in the area for going out after the kids are in bed. We love enjoying ice cream or dessert at Last Course and sitting around the fountains. Head to your favorite dessert spot or pick something up to enjoy at home!

The Perfect Date for National Fishing Week

National Fishing and Boating Week takes place this week and I thought you might want to plan a date night to celebrate! This post contains everything that you need to know to plan your fishing date(s) or getaway this week.

Location: A pond near you - see list below
Cost: Varies based on fishing license, gear needed, etc.

National fishing week

If I were you, I would go fishing this coming Saturday, June 9th because it is free fishing day in Utah! This means that you can fish on public bodies of water without a fishing license. The cost of your date will go down if you don't need a fishing license.

To fish on any other day of the year, you will need to get a license first. You can purchase your fishing license online. Once you've picked up your license, grab any gear that you need. If you don't own gear, see if anyone in your family or friend group is willing to let you borrow theirs, or go out and invest in some of your own. If you're considering turning fishing into a hobby, even if you only go a few times a year, it might be worth investing in all of the right equipment for yourself.

Bountiful Pond

Now that you're already to go fishing, head to a pond near you. Below is a list of the bodies of water in Davis County where you can go fishing. If there are any missing from the list, feel free to e-mail us and let us know! Click on the links below to find out more about each fishing location (ie directions, size, hours, fish available, and restrictions specific to that body of water).
