3 Reasons to Take Mom on a Date for Mother's Day

One of my favorite gifts to get, for any holiday or special occasion, is a date night out with my husband and kids! Date nights are my love language, and having a date night planned especially to celebrate me makes me over the top happy. My husband buys and plants flowers in our front yard with the kids every year for Mother’s Day, and I love it, but I always tell him that what I want the most is for him to plan and take me out on a date. Whether you’re celebrating your own mom or the mother of your children this year, I wanted to share with you the reasons why I think date night is the perfect gift for any mom!

Take your wife out on a date just the two of you, grab your mom and take her out, or plan a family date for the kids to help you celebrate with a fun date. At the end of this post, you’ll find date night ideas for moms and our favorite places to eat in the area for Mother’s Day. If you need other gift ideas, those are linked as well. I recommend forwarding those links to the mom you’re wanting to celebrate, and ask her to let you know what her top three preferences are from each one. That will help you personalize your Mother’s Day celebration!

3 Reasons to Take Mom on a Date for Mother’s Day

1. Date night is quality time that is fun and meaningful! A lot of the time that moms spend with their family comes in the form of taxiing them to activities, helping with homework, and managing the household and daily life. Mom wants to have fun as much as she wants to get things done!

2. Date night is the gift of time and experience! Purchasing something at the store is easy and can be really meaningful. But sacrificing time out of your schedule and giving your full attention to someone is even better! It’s an “experience gift”, which is something that has become really popular for kids’ gifts and can be great for moms as well.

3. Date night creates memories that will last forever! I personally love hearing from my kids about the memories they have from different holidays or special occasions. My son celebrated a birthday a month into the 2020 pandemic and he still talks about how that day, when we were stuck at home on our own, family members came by to leave gifts on the porch, draw on our driveway with chalk, leave him treats, and talk to him from across the yard. The things they brought don’t stick in his mind as much as the memory of everyone taking time to love him. Date night is an opportunity to make memories that will last longer than a physical object.
