Hot cocoa season is here, and I couldn’t be happier! Ever since my husband and I started dating, grabbing hot cocoa together has been one of our favorite simple date nights. Sometimes it’s as quick as sipping a mug at home after the kids are asleep, and other times we’ll sneak away for an afternoon pick-me-up. Fun fact: hot chocolate is made from real melted chocolate, while hot cocoa comes from powder mixed with milk or water.
Hot cocoa is sweet on its own, but it’s even better when it becomes part of your story together. Try one of these cozy date ideas to make it more than just a warm beverage for this season!
Hot Cocoa Date Ideas
Hot Cocoa Taste-Off
Create a list of places around Davis County that serve hot cocoa you'd like to try. Scroll further in this post for a full list of places in Davis County that serve great cups of hot cocoa. Break the list up and add one to your weekly date night rotation if you don’t want to get burnt out too quickly.
You can also do a taste-off at home! Pick up different mixes or seasonal flavors (peppermint, pumpkin spice, white chocolate) and add fun toppings like crushed candy canes, caramel drizzle, or extra marshmallows.
Hot Cocoa Mini Date
Short on time? Sneak away for a “mini-date.” Grab a cup of hot cocoa to-go from a local café and enjoy it together on a neighborhood walk, pull through a drive-thru and enjoy it while you drive, or bring it home to sip on the porch after the kids are in bed. It’s quick, cozy, and still counts as intentional time together.
Sweet Date Night Ending
Instead of dedicating a whole date night to cocoa, make it the sweet finale. Pick up a cup after dinner or a movie, and sip while you chat about your favorite parts of the evening. Turn it into a season-long challenge by rating each one you try and, by the end of winter, crown your “Best Hot Cocoa in Davis County.”
Movies & Mugs Night
Stay in and make it cozy: build a blanket fort or snuggle on the couch with your mugs in hand and a seasonal movie playing. Something cozy like You’ve Got Mail or spooky like Hocus Pocus is perfect for the fall months. As the holidays roll around, sip while you watch Elf, The Holiday, or While You Were Sleeping. And on those chilly January/February evenings, keep the cozy vibes going with Groundhog Day or Frozen.
Holiday Tradition Builder
Turn hot cocoa into part of your seasonal traditions. Carry it while you walk through fall leaves, sip a cup while trick-or-treating with your kids, or enjoy a cup together while handing out candy. During the holidays, make it part of your traditions by sipping cocoa while you decorate the Christmas tree, drive around to see holiday lights, or warm up after a night of caroling. In January, bring a thermos of cocoa on a winter walk, sledding adventure, or even while building a snowman in the yard.
Start your tasting adventure close to home. Davis County is full of gems serving up rich, creamy hot cocoa that’s perfect for warming up on a crisp fall or winter night. These are the must-try favorites you’ll want to add to your seasonal date list.

Location: 2086 N Harris Blvd, Suite 2, Layton
While Crispy Cones is best known for their fresh-baked pastry cones filled with soft serve, toppings, and drizzles, this season, it may be the go-to spot for hot chocolate in Davis County. They’re serving up a Belgian Hot Chocolate that’s rich, creamy, and indulgent. And if you want to take it to the next level, you can add a scoop of their soft serve right into the cup.
It’s a treat that feels reminiscent of the old gelato shop in Bountiful that used to serve European-style hot chocolate with a scoop of gelato on top. Unique, cozy, and a little playful, this twist makes Crispy Cones a must-try for your winter date list.
Caffe Torrino
Location: 58 N Main St, Farmington
If you haven’t visited this charming café on Farmington’s Main Street yet, put it on your list! Their Chocolatto isn’t technically hot chocolate, but it’s close—and absolutely worth trying. Thick, warm, and almost pudding-like in consistency, it’s one of the most decadent drinks you’ll find in Davis County.
They also serve hot cocoa and steamers, which are tasty in their own right, but the Chocolatto steals the show. Pair it with one of their fresh crepes for an indulgent date that feels both cozy and a little bit fancy.
The Best Hot Cocoa in Davis County
Of course, you don’t always need melted chocolate to make the moment special. Sometimes a classic cup of hot cocoa is exactly what you’re craving. Here are some of the best spots in Davis County to grab a cup this season.
Black Bow Chocolates
Location: 13 W Center St, Kaysville
If you’re looking for one of the best cups of hot cocoa in Davis County, head straight to Black Bow Chocolates in Kaysville. A couple of years ago, I stopped in mostly for the hot chocolate—and now it’s become my favorite in the area. It’s rich, creamy, and indulgent, with the perfect balance of sweetness. You can add a flavored syrup if you’d like, but I love it plain, topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.
Last season, they expanded their menu to include coffee and “choffee” (brewed cocoa beans), which have quickly become local favorites. And while you’re there, you won’t regret picking up a handcrafted chocolate or two to enjoy with your cocoa. This is a spot that makes a simple hot chocolate date feel extra special.
Waffle Love
Location: 1076 W. Park Lane, Suite 120, Farmington
Hot cocoa and waffles? Yes, please! Waffle Love in Farmington makes the perfect pairing for a seasonal date night. Their hot chocolate is only available during the colder months, so it’s a limited-time treat you’ll want to take advantage of. Pair it with one of their savory favorites, like the Chicken Avocado Tartine, Grilled Cheese with Tomato Soup, or the classic Chicken and Waffles, for the ultimate cozy combo.
Whether you’re stopping in for a casual lunch date or warming up after shopping at Station Park, Waffle Love’s seasonal hot cocoa is a delicious way to make your meal feel extra special.
Aloha Golf & Coffee Lounge

You can rent a bay for $45 an hour (or $35 with a punch pass) and spend your time playing while you sip something cozy.
Their Paradise Cocoa is a must-try: a blended hot cocoa with island-inspired flavors of coconut, caramel, and macadamia nut. It’s a unique twist on a classic, and the perfect drink to make your golf date feel extra memorable.
MakMak Thai Cuisine

MakMak Thai Cuisine on Bountiful’s Main Street isn’t just known for flavorful dishes—it’s also a hidden gem for hot cocoa lovers. Their menu features creative options like ginger chocolate, pumpkin spice, mint, and salted caramel, each one a cozy twist on the classic.

Location: 234 S 500 W Suite 101, West Bountiful
When Salt Lake favorite Penny Ann’s opened a Bountiful location, Davis County residents were thrilled, and for good reason! Their menu has something for everyone, but the Heavenly Hot Cakes are the star of the show. Pair a stack of those fluffy pancakes with a mug of hot cocoa, and you’ve got a breakfast date that’s both cozy and indulgent. It’s the perfect spot to warm up on a chilly morning and linger a little longer together.
Sill’s Cafe
Location: 335 E Gentile St, Layton
Sill’s Café is a long-time community favorite, so much so that it’s often busy even mid-morning on weekdays. Known for their famous scones and hearty breakfast specials, it’s the kind of place that serves comfort food done right. Pair your plate with a hot cocoa and you’ve got a simple, classic breakfast date that feels timeless. Sometimes the best moments together are over good food and a warm mug.
Chris’ Cafe
Location: 56 E 1700 S, Clearfield
Chris’ Café is North Davis County’s classic diner, serving up hearty breakfast and lunch favorites like omelets, breakfast sandwiches, steak and eggs, and all the classic combos. While I haven’t tried it myself yet, locals rave about it in community groups whenever brunch spots come up. Pair one of their big, satisfying breakfasts with a hot cocoa, and you’ve got a cozy, no-frills date that’s all about comfort food and conversation.
The Best Drive-Thru Hot Cocoa in Davis County
Sometimes date night needs to be simple… like swinging through a drive-thru for your favorite cup of cocoa to sip on a leaf-peeping drive, while running errands together, or before checking out holiday lights. These spots are quick, convenient, and still totally cozy.
Thirst
Location: 1545 S Main St, Bountiful
Thirst Drinks & Treats is a local favorite for fun drinks and sweet snacks, and last year, they added hot cocoa to their menu! Served piled high with whipped topping, it’s delicious on its own or you can mix things up with their flavor combos or create your own using their wide selection of syrups.
For an easy drive-thru date, grab a cup along with an order of pretzel bites or a scotcharoo (my personal favorites) and take it along for a cozy drive through the fall leaves or a holiday lights tour.
Swig
Locations: 165 S 500 W, Bountiful // 330 N Marketplace Dr Suite B900, Centerville // 260 S Fort Ln Ste. 101, Layton // 916 W 1700 S Suite C, Clearfield
Swig isn’t just about sodas—they’ve got hot cocoa, too! Last year, two seasonal flavors made the menu: The Nutcracker (hazelnut + vanilla cream) and Dream Cocoa (raspberry + coconut cream). You can also create your own flavor combo using their syrups, which makes it fun to experiment together.
Right now, you can grab a classic hot cocoa or switch things up with a frozen hot cocoa. The frozen option is perfect for warmer fall afternoons or if you’re just in the mood for something different. Quick to pick up, fun to customize, and easy to take along on a drive, Swig makes a simple stop feel like a date.

Fiiz takes hot cocoa to another level with endless flavor combos. A few fun ones to try: Gingersnap (brown sugar cinnamon + gingerbread), Raspberry Truffle (raspberry + white chocolate), and Vanilla Lavender. They also serve a frozen hot cocoa that’s one of my favorites. It’s playful, cozy, and perfect for a quick-but-fun date stop.
Twisted Sugar

In-N-Out
Location: 475 N 700 W, Centerville // 1977 N 1200 W, Layton
It might surprise you, but In-N-Out serves hot chocolate too! Even better, kids get a free cup on rainy or snowy days. Pair it with fries for the perfect rainy-day snack, or grab one alongside your burgers and shakes for a simple, cozy treat. The kids’ size cups are just right, and it’s a fun little addition to a classic drive-thru stop.
The Best Gas Station Hot Cocoa in Davis County
Sometimes the best cocoa isn’t fancy—it’s nostalgic. Gas station cocoa can be a fun, budget-friendly mini-date (or a spontaneous stop on the way home). Grab a cup, load it with toppings, and rate it together for fun.
Maverik Gas Stations
Sometimes the best hot cocoa is just around the corner. For us, that’s Maverik. When the craving hits, we’ll drive a block to grab a cup and add a pump of hazelnut syrup for a little extra flavor. After sampling plenty of hot chocolates around, I’d say Maverik’s is one of the best. Simple, convenient, and surprisingly delicious. It’s a fun little stop that proves even a gas station cocoa can make a date night moment.
7-Eleven
7-Eleven might be famous for its Slurpees, but its hot cocoa deserves a little attention, too. It’s a simple, convenient option if you’re already in the city and need a quick warm-up. I tried it last year and enjoyed it, though Maverik still wins for me, mostly because it’s closer to home and fits my taste better. Still, if you’re near a 7-Eleven, it’s a solid stop for a spontaneous cocoa date.
Worth the Trip: The Best Hot Cocoa Spots in Utah
If you’re up for a little drive, Utah has some famous hot cocoa and hot chocolate spots that are perfect for a winter date night adventure. These aren’t in Davis County, but they’re so good they deserve a place on your seasonal bucket list. From rich sipping chocolate to over-the-top cocoa creations, these stops turn a simple drink into a full-on experience.
Hatch Family Chocolates
Location: 376 8th Ave A, Salt Lake City
A handful of years ago, I discovered this family-owned chocolate shop tucked away in Salt Lake’s Avenues, and someone suggested I try their hot chocolate. I immediately fell in love. My go-to order is the milk chocolate with bitter orange, but honestly, everything on their menu is incredible. I’ve even tried their vegan hot chocolate, and it’s just as rich and delicious.
I try to make it down at least two or three times a year, and every time it feels like a treat worth the drive. If I lived closer, I’d probably be there every week! Hatch’s hot chocolate is indulgent, cozy, and the perfect excuse for a little date night adventure outside Davis County.
Brooker’s Founding Flavors
Locations: Various in Utah County, One in Cache County
At Brooker’s, the hot cocoa isn’t just a drink; it’s a nod to history. Their Early American Drinking Chocolate is crafted in the spirit of what the Founding Fathers once enjoyed. Each flavor is named after one of the original thirteen colonies, making this sipping chocolate as fun as it is flavorful. I haven’t tried it yet, but it’s at the top of my list this year, and definitely worth the drive for a unique date night treat.
