Budget-Friendly Spring Break Activities in Davis County

Budget-Friendly Outdoor Spring Break Activities

Explore Antelope Island
Antelope Island (4528 W 1700 S, Syracuse) has lots to see, even if the weather isn’t ideal for getting out of your car to explore. Wildlife can be spotted all across the island, and you might see a baby animal or two, with it being spring. There are trails to hike, no matter your skill level. Fielding Garr Ranch has a museum and exhibit that is open Wednesday - Monday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the Antelope Island Visitor Center is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM daily.

Mini Golf & Jungle Maze at Cherry Hill
Cherry Hill is opening its mini golf course for Spring Break, along with the Jungle Maze. Unfortunately, the Pie Pantry doesn’t open until Memorial Day, but you can head to Station Park or Kaysville Main Street for some delicious food after you golf. Dress for the weather because it can get chilly on the mini golf course this time of year!

Go Fishing
Rainy, cooler weather is supposed to be perfect fishing weather, right? Click here for great places to fish in the Davis County area. Take your fish home and find a new recipe, then cook together as a family and enjoy your catch.

Budget-Friendly Indoor Spring Break Activities

Tour the Chocolate Factory in North Salt Lake
Mrs. Cavanaugh’s is located in North Salt Lake (835 Northpointe Circle, North Salt Lake) and offers 45-minute tours for just $5 per person (includes a $4 redeemable voucher at the end of your tour, which must be used the same day it’s received, at that location). Tours are available weekdays from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and must be booked online. This is a fun opportunity to see the history of this local family business, learn how their candy is made, and taste a sample or two!

Catch a Late Night Improv Show
The Improvables is a local improv troupe that has been performing in South Davis County for years now! They currently host a show at 9:00 PM on Friday nights at Backstage Performing Arts (803 N 1250 W, Centerville). Cost is $8 per person to attend. Every show includes never-before-seen content that’s family-friendly and sure to make you laugh!

Play at an Indoor Play Area
My kids are hoping to check out the newly opened Discovery Cove (1040 N 950 W, Suite 600, Centerville) this break. I’ve also heard great things about Kid Zone (340 W Antelope Dr, Suite A101, Clearfield) and know a lot of people love Kangaroo Zoo (395 N Redwood Rd, North Salt Lake). For older kids, check out Fly High (2119 S 1200 W, Suite 108, Woods Cross), Get Air (1188 Sportsplex Dr, Kaysville), or Classic Fun Center (867 N Angel Street, Layton). Another option is to eat or get a treat while the kids play at Chick-fil-a, Arctic Circle, or McDonald’s; all of which have locations across the county.

Catch a Movie
Going to see a movie as a family might not seem budget-friendly, but I’m here to tell you it can be! Catching a matinee or going on Tuesdays when ticket prices are lower is a great way to save. We also recommend checking out The Kaysville Theatre (21 Main St, Kaysville), where ticket prices are $5 or less, every single day, and they are playing movies during the day and in the evening through spring break week.

Create a Taste Off
Who has the best ice cream, fries, cookies, chicken wings, etc. in Davis County? Poll the people on your social media, make a list of places to go, determine your criteria for judging, and have fun discovering your favorites! Here are some fun spots to start your taste-off:

Explore The Red Balloon Toy Store
This one is random, but a favorite of my kids, and if I’m honest, something I love doing as well. The Red Balloon Toy Store (352 Main St, Kaysville) is a little unassuming, but when you walk inside, it’s amazing!! They have displays at the front of the store that can be played with and explored. Walking the aisles and checking out all of the amazing toys they have available is an adventure in itself. Sometimes we take money to buy things, other times we take pictures with all the things we love to add to our wishlist later. Either way, it’s a fun experience that my kids ask to repeat over and over again.

Try an Escape Room
This is on our family’s spring break plans. Depending on the ages and interests of your family members, Davis County has three escape room venues to check out, with similar pricing across all three, and the ability to book just your group in a room; no strangers will be trying to escape with you. Big Brain Escape (600 N 500 W C, Bountiful) has three mystery-based rooms and one scary one. Great Room Escape (525 Ring Rd, Layton) is a classic with six different rooms ranging from scary to suspenseful to mysterious. Escape Boredom (772 E 700 S, Suite 1, Clearfield) recently opened and has two rooms available that are both fun and immersive, and the entire family will love.

Get Creative at Salty Clay Art Studio
Salty Clay (1050 Shepard Ln STE 11, Farmington) is hosting spring break camps every afternoon this week. They also have canvas paint nights, open studio time for pottery painting, and even to-go canvas painting kits that you can pick up and do at home.

Eat Pizza and Play Arcade Games at Louie’s
Louie’s in Layton is one of our favorite places to hang out! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is fun and nostalgic, and they have games that everyone will love. Bring your quarters or use their ATM/change maker on site, come hungry to share pizza/breadsticks/ice cream, and bring your competitive spirit for those multi-player games or to see who can score the highest on single player games.

Watch Finding Neverland at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre
Finding Neverland is a fun, family-friendly show based on the story of Peter Pan, and currently showing on the main stage at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre (525 N 400 W, Centerville). There are tickets still available for every showing next week. Visit our Upcoming Events page for details about each show.

Try a New Restaurant
Davis County has so many great restaurants that feel like best-kept secrets and shouldn’t be! Is there a restaurant in your area that you’ve been meaning to visit, or one that you’ve seen people talk about and wanted to try? Decide as a family where you want to eat, and try as many new places as your budget will allow! Sharing food is a great way to get a taste of everything the menus offer without getting too full.
