Go to a Comedy Show

Research suggests that couples who laugh together have a happier, more successful relationship. Some of our most memorable dates have been the ones where we can’t stop laughing, whether it was at a live comedy show, a funny movie, or just swapping stories over dinner. For a local favorite, we love The Improvables, a local improv troupe that has been bringing comedy to the community for years now. Keep an eye on their social media page for their schedule and check them out when they’re performing for a fun and easy date night close to home.

If you’re up for a little drive, Wiseguys Comedy is worth the trip, and they often offer deals online, making it a great value date! You can catch a show at their location in The Gateway in Downtown Salt Lake City, or head north to their spot on Historic 25th Street in Ogden for a fun evening in a great setting.

Enjoy Breakfast or Brunch Together

There’s something relaxed and enjoyable about lingering over a good meal together without the pressure of a busy dinner rush. Whether your man is a steak-and-eggs loyalist, a breakfast burrito devotee, an omelette purist, or someone who goes straight for the pancakes and French toast every single time, Davis County has a spot he’ll love! A mimosa or a good cup of coffee to round out your meal is always a win as well. Check out our roundup of the best brunch spots in Davis County and start planning your weekend morning date.

Lunch and a Matinee Movie

If you’re looking for a great midday date that beats the summer heat, this is the idea for you! Lunch followed by settling into a cool, dark theater for a couple of hours is always a win. Matinee prices are easier on the wallet, and lunch is often less expensive, which makes it a win all around. Check out our full lunch guide for Davis County, or pair your movie with brunch from the idea above.

Happy Hour or Late Night Dessert

Sometimes the best dates are the simplest ones. Sneak away for happy hour or a late night treat after the kids are in bed. Look for local restaurants with great drink specials and appetizers if you’re going the happy hour route. Late-night (or mid-day) dessert is a win as well. Check out our dessert/snack date guide for the best spots with great deals and delicious food.

Take Him for a Steak Dinner

Is there anything more classic for a Father’s Day celebration than a really good steak? Lots of restaurants have great steak options, whether you’re looking for something less expensive or willing to splurge. This date also makes a great at home one! Pick up a quality cut from a local butcher (Centerville Meats or Dons Meats) or grocery store (Bowman’s or Harmon’s) and pull out all the stops on his favorite sides (loaded baked potatoes, salad, rolls, etc. Turn your backyard into a five-star experience. Light some candles, put on good music, and make it a night.

Get Food from His Favorite Restaurant

Where does the father in your life always suggest when you ask where he wants to eat? What cuisine does he crave but rarely gets to enjoy? What restaurant has he mentioned a time or two that you haven’t made it to yet? Make a reservation, hire the babysitter, and give him a night where he gets to order exactly what he wants without compromise, without anyone asking for bites off his plate (you included).

Father's day celebration ideas

However you choose to celebrate the dad in your life this Father's Day, the most important ingredient is time together. Whether you pull off a surprise date night, plan something he's been hinting at all year, or keep it simple with his favorite meal and good conversation, it all counts. And if getting a babysitter isn't in the cards this year, don't stress! Almost every idea on this list can easily be turned into a fun family outing, too.
