The Best Place for a Firework Date Night in Davis County

One of the best things about July, in my opinion, are the firework shows! I love cuddling up under on a blanket, watching the fireworks and listening to music, and then sticking around to stargaze for a while afterward. With two little kids, we won't get to go somewhere to see the fireworks for the next few years, but we are lucky because a private golf course behind our house puts on a show on the 4th of July. We can watch from the comfort of our own backyard while those kids sleep inside.

Check out this post to find out if a festival is involved with the firework show that you are choosing to attend. If it is, you will be able to find food vendors for dinner, snacks and treats to enjoy during the show. If you are choosing to watch the show from another location, pull up Google Maps and see what there is in the area, grab some food to go and enjoy a picnic while you wait for the fireworks to start.

Disclaimer: I do not know where each show is being shot off from. Some of the locations noted below may not be available for viewing because of that location.

4th of july fireworks

Saturday June 29

Syracuse Founders Park - Dusk - Syracuse City: If you don't want to join the crowd at Founders Park, consider watching from one of the open fields at Canterbury Park

Wednesday July 3

Centerville Smith Park - 9:45pm - Centerville City: Founders Park is a great place to watch this firework show, with entertainment prefacing the show. You could also watch tailgating style from the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter.

Eaglewood Golf Course - 10pm - North Salt Lake City: The Golf Course offers a lot of space for watching the show. You might also check out Wild Rose Trailhead Park or Deer Hollow Park.

West Bountiful City Park - 10pm - West Bountiful: If you're able to grab some grass on the east side of Frontage Road in Centerville, just across the freeway from the park, you might have a great view and you can grab food or a treat from the restaurants just down the street.

Thursday July 4

Barnes Park - 10pm - Kaysville City: This is a newer location for this firework show and I haven't heard any great suggestions for where to watch the show. There is a lot of space in the park, so you might not have too hard of a time finding a place to watch. There is also an industrial park just north of the park where you might find some space to sit your camping chairs and watch the show.

Oakridge Country Club - 10pm - Farmington: Every year, Oakridge hosts a party for their members that ends with a firework show over the golf course. Only members of the country club can attend, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the show. Heritage Park in Farmington (1591 N 1075 W, Farmington) has a large field area and is a great place to relax and watch the show with your family.

Friday July 19

Mueller Park Jr. High - 10pm - Woods Cross/Bountiful City: There is a lot of open space around the junior high and neighboring park. You could also try to watch the show from Eggett park.

utah firework shows

One of my very favorite things to do is to find an overlook that we can drive to in the mountains and have a view of the entire valley while fireworks are going off. You may not have the very best seats in the house for the big shows, but now that aerial fireworks are allowed, it's fun to watch them popping up across the valley. Click here for more details about a great hike that overlooks the entire valley. Watch the sunset from the viewpoint, then stay for the fireworks!

Most big shows have music being played in the park or area where the fireworks are being shown. If you choose to watch the show from somewhere other than the main show area, bring your own music! Put together a fun playlist or pull up your favorite station on a phone app. Create your own atmosphere for the fireworks and then shift to some more romantic songs while you look at the stars afterward.

For those of you who are looking for date night fun this weekend, we've compiled a list of almost 10 different things going on in the area that sound like a great way to celebrate everything you've accomplished in 2018 and look forward to 2019.

Spend the Day in Midway

With the gross inversion that we get here in the Salt Lake Valley, it can be nice to escape to the mountains for a day or two. We love heading to Midway because there are lots of great things to do and cozy places to stay if we decide we aren't ready to come home yet. The Midway Ice Castles are gorgeous during the day or at night, Soldier Hollow has the longest tubing lanes in Utah with a lift service to tow you back up the hill, The Crater at Homestead Resort offers a warm escape from the snow, and Wildfire Smokehaus at Zermatt Resort is one of our very favorite places to eat.  All of the activities are open during the day and at night and are fantastic experiences! Make a day of it or ring in the new year and celebrate with an overnight stay.

Midway Ice Castles

Whatever you do to ring in the New Year, make time for date night and each other! Sit down together and set some goals for date night in the new year and don't forget to make plans for the other things that you'd like to accomplish. Oh, and be sure to grab your New Year's kiss ;)

My Birthday Dinner Date at The Roof

For years, going on a date to The Roof has been on our date night bucket list. My husband surprised me and made reservations there for our dinner date as part of my birthday getaway. We spent some time on Temple Square and got to the restaurant as dinner was starting. The food is delicious and the view is stunning so if you’re looking for a romantic place to celebrate a special occasion, this is it.

Where: 15 E S Temple, Salt Lake City
Cost: $42 per adult

the roof salt lake city

We had a really fun waiter who shared a birthday with me. He gave us amazing drink suggestions and we were so grateful that we took his advice. He kept our plates cleared as we finished eating from them, kept our drinks topped and helped us have a good time without hovering too much so that we could still enjoy an intimate dinner together.

If you’re not familiar with The Roof, it’s a gourmet buffet restaurant on the top floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building on Temple Square in Downtown Salt Lake. A lot of The Roof experience is about the atmosphere and the views. You’ll find gourmet salad bars and amazing meat cuts full of flavor. We were so full by the time we finished our dinner course, we didn’t get to try their amazing desserts, but I’ve had the opportunity to sample them as I’ve planned company parties at the JSMB and I can tell you that they are all amazingly delicious.

The live piano music being played from over by the food bars, the upscale table settings and the view of the temple grounds from out the window are all a huge part of why we enjoyed our time at The Roof. And those rolls, can we talk about the phenomenal Lion House rolls?!?! I’m drooling over here just thinking about them.

This is definitely the place to go the next time you’re looking for somewhere fancy to celebrate something a special occasion or your love!

Romantic Full Moon Lift Ride at Sundance Resort

For the last three summers, I've wanted to go on a Full Moon Lift Ride at Sundance Resort for date night. The first year we planned to go, our baby came two months early and we had to postpone. Last summer we had a babysitter lined up but had to cancel again because our toddler came down with a fever. I honestly worried that this year's plans were going to have to be postponed as well, so I didn't purchase tickets until we got to the lift, but we made it happen and it was a lot of fun!

Where: Ray's Lift - Sundance (8841 N Alpine Loop Road, Sundance)
Cost: $34 for two people (other ticket packages available depending on the size of your group)

full moon lift ride at sundance resort

Once a month, surrounding the full moon, you can ride Ray's Lift to the top of the mountain and back down again under the starlit sky. It's a fun family activity and perfect for date night! The Lift Ride operates from 8:30pm - 11:00pm and each ride last 45 minutes to an hour.

We both brought a sweatshirt with us because we knew that it could get chilly in the mountains after dark. A lot of groups had blankets with them, and I thought they looked really cozy. The temperature the night we went (July 28, 2018) was perfect and our light sweatshirts were perfect for the ride. I would guess that rides earlier and later in the year are a bit more chilly as the temperatures drop during the day as well.

romantic full moon lift ride

I was surprised by how popular the full moon lift rides were. When we were waiting in line, the employees operating the list were talking about how busy it had been the night before. We arrived just after 8:00pm and got in line around 8:30. The line wasn't too long when we got there, but we still waited about half an hour before it was our turn. On our way back down the mountain, we had a view of the line and noticed that it had gotten pretty long. That was at about 10:00pm. As we were walking back to the car, we overheard another employee talking about it being busier than normal that night as well. While we were on the ride, we talked about wanting to ride the lift later in the night the next time, so we could maybe get a glimpse of the full moon as it came over the mountain.

Sundance summer theatre

My favorite part of the ride was the silence and crickets up near the top of the lift. I also loved the sounds of the musical 'Oklahoma' that was playing as pat of the summer theatre that evening. The views from the lift were stunning in every direction and it almost made me wish I had a cabin in the area.

The lift operators left a chair in between each load at the bottom of the mountain so that an event at the top of the lift could load and ride back down at the same time. By the time we reached the top, they were done loading, so the chairs between us and the groups in front of and behind us stayed empty. There were other groups that we passed going the opposite direction, but for the most part the ride felt intimate and secluded.

ray's lift at sundance

I'd like to go later or earlier in the season next time, with the plan to bundle up more and see if the crowds are lighter and if we can see the moon. When we do go again, I think we'd make it part of an overnight date and plan to stay somewhere nearby. That drive back to Davis County after a late night, relaxing lift ride was rough and we were pretty exhausted the next day.

That hour on the mountain gave us a great opportunity to chat and connect and provided a new atmosphere for date night. We loved our time at Sundance and can't wait to go back again soon!

Would you go on a lift ride or are you more adventurous and would you go for the zip line tour?
