Spring Date Night Ideas at Station Park in Farmington

Have a Picnic on the Green Space by the Fountains

I love sitting by the fountains during the warmer months, watching kids run around and families spend time together. Grab food from one of your favorite restaurants in the area and lay out a picnic on the “grass” between the fountains and the movie theater. Waffled, Madbrook Donuts and Farmington Franks are all great picnic food options around the fountains.

Oil and Vinegar Tasting at Redstone Olive Oil

If you’ve never visited Redstone Olive Oil, you’re missing out on a fun experiences! Redstone has a wide variety of olive oils and balsamic vinegar in their store. They allow you to create a combination and taste it before buying. They also sometimes host fun chocolate fountain events and if you follow them on social media you’ll find out when those are. On the back wall of the store you’ll find fresh and healthy recipes that you can purchase to take home and make with your new oils and vinegar.

Grab the Date Night Deal at Dough Co.

Dough Co. just opened at Station Park, over in the same building as Blaze Pizza, on the west side of the parking lot. Every Thursday you can get a large, shareable half baked for the price of an individual. It’s a great deal for a mid-week date!

Try Out a New Restaurant

There are so many new restaurants that have opened at Station Park in the last few months and even more coming soon! Whether you’re looking for something quick and budget friendly or want to splurge for your date night, you’ll find a variety of cuisine to enjoy! Visit Station Park’s website for a list of all of their dining options.

Make it a Mid-Week Morning Date

Have you ever been to Station Park on a weekday morning? I stopped by last year to grab a treat and it was quiet and a great place to relax. Stop by Waffled for one of their stuffed breakfast waffles or grab a drink from Fiiz, then sit at one of the tables around the fountains and enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful spring weather.

Stroll Around the Mall While Enjoying a Pretzel

On the block north of Fountain Square, there’s a Pretzelmaker. Stop by for a sweet or salty treat and your favorite cold drink. Rather than sitting to eat, enjoy your snack on the go. Wander around the mall, peeking in windows and making note of places that you want to be sure to visit in the future.

Winter Date Night Ideas at Station Park in Farmington

Ice Skating by the Fountains

Station Park has a fun little skating rink that’s open until early February and it’s a perfect activity for date night! Two hour skate rental is $6 for adults and if you pay with your America First Credit Union credit card or debit card, you can get half off that price.

Late Night Movie at Cinemark

Cuddling up at the movies is a great way to beat the cold weather. Cinemark recently upgraded all of their seating to luxury recliners, and it’s honestly more cozy than the couches we have at home. If you can get away on a weeknight, $5 Tuesdays is a great deal for a movie night. Grab popcorn, a drink and some concessions and cozy up together to watch one of the great movies that are out! We love bringing our own blankets to make our date a little more cozy.

Dessert at Last Course

Last Course has become one of my favorite places in the area for date night, girl’s night out and just when I need a little treat. They have a great core menu, delicious ice cream flavors and fun desserts and scoops on their creations menu that changes each month. I love the atmosphere at Last Course and it’s perfect for date night! We love adding it onto the end of our evening or making it the core activity of our date.

Dinner, Dessert or a Snack at Waffled

One of our favorite restaurants recently moved to the Eats & Treats building just east of the fountains at Station Park, and although we’re sad that it’s not by Smith’s still, closer to our house, it adds perfectly to one of our favorite date night locations. Waffled has savory stuffed waffles with soup that make a great meal, stuffed breakfast waffles and sweet waffles liege waffles that make a great treat. You can hang out inside where it’s warm or take your waffle out by the fountains under one of the heaters.

Grab a Bath Bomb from Lush

After we grab dinner at one of our favorite restaurants at Station Park, we like to wander the mall and window shop. One of our favorite stores to stop by is Lush. We love their bath bombs and find that they make a great addition to our date night. We spend some time browsing their many options, smelling them all, and then we pick one out and take it home. After the babysitter is gone, we climb into a warm bath and watch a movie together.

Drink Hot Chocolate by the Fountains

Winter is the perfect time for hot chocolate, and Station Park’s fountains have heaters around them. I love being able to enjoy the fountain shows and the music without getting too cold. We enjoyed this as part of our date night last winter and it was perfect for a warm cup of hot chocolate and some quality conversation.

9 Ways to Celebrate the New Year in Davis County

We usually keep our New Year's Eve celebrations low key and stay home because we have young kids and don't want to take our babysitters away from the fun activities that they have planned. I have grand ideas for fun in future years and even a few overnight getaways as a couple and as a family. This year, we're hoping to do a couple of the things on this list, as our kids allow. For those of you who are looking for date night fun this weekend, we've compiled a list of almost 10 different things going on in the area that sound like a great way to celebrate everything you've accomplished in 2018 and look forward to 2019.

Christmas Bird Count at Antelope Island

This year marks the 119th annual bird count, the nation's longest running citizen science bird project. Take an easy hike in the park on Antelope Island to help identify birds and compile vial data. New Year's Celebrations at Antelope Island

First Day Hike at Antelope Island

If you're an avid hiker or just looking for ways to be more active and get outdoors in 2019, this is the event for you! A park naturalist will guide the 2.5 mile hike. You will get to enjoy a view of the Great Salt Lake and the beauty of Antelope Island while learning all about the area. There will be two different events this year, both start at 10am. The first hike will begin at the Buffalo Point trailhead and will be approximately one mile total. The second hike will be a six mile loop starting at the Lakeside trailhead in White Rock Bay.

Worth the Trip

Elk Viewing and Wagon Ride at Hardware Ranch

For a small fee, you can take a wagon ride and view the elk up close and personal. This is a fun activity for the family or a date. Rides are $5 for adults (9 and older) and $3 for children (4 through 8), kids 3 and younger ride for free. On your way home, we recommend a stop in Perry to eat at Maddox Ranch House, their rolls are amazing!

Top Golf

We enjoyed our brunch date to Top Golf this year and are really looking forward to more dates in the future. This year they're putting together an unforgettable midnight celebration with golf and delicious food leading up to it. The New Year’s Eve package includes unlimited game play from 9pm to 1am for up to six guests, midnight fireworks and party favors to ring in the new year. Book your bay soon if you’re hoping to be there!

Spend the Day in Midway

With the gross inversion that we get here in the Salt Lake Valley, it can be nice to escape to the mountains for a day or two. We love heading to Midway because there are lots of great things to do and cozy places to stay if we decide we aren't ready to come home yet. The Midway Ice Castles are gorgeous during the day or at night, Soldier Hollow has the longest tubing lanes in Utah with a lift service to tow you back up the hill, The Crater at Homestead Resort offers a warm escape from the snow, and Wildfire Smokehaus at Zermatt Resort is one of our very favorite places to eat.  All of the activities are open during the day and at night and are fantastic experiences! Make a day of it or ring in the new year and celebrate with an overnight stay.

Midway Ice Castles

Whatever you do to ring in the New Year, make time for date night and each other! Sit down together and set some goals for date night in the new year and don't forget to make plans for the other things that you'd like to accomplish. Oh, and be sure to grab your New Year's kiss ;)

Davis County Light Displays

My favorite thing about the holiday season are the Christmas lights! I love that no matter where you go or what you are doing, you can enjoy the sights of the holidays. Look up toward the hills, out across the valley, or just at the houses and shopping centers as you pass by. I can't help but smile wherever we go because everything is so festive and fun!

A tradition that we started the first year of our marriage was to drive around town sometime the week before chocolate, our favorite hot chocolate in hand, enjoying all of the Christmas light displays. Each year I find out about more Christmas light displays in the area and add them to my list of places to visit. I'm sure this list will continue to grow, but I wanted to share it with you this year. We'll be going out next week of our traditional Christmas light drive and plan to visit many of these.

Layton City Park Christmas Light Display

Christmas Light Displays in Davis County

Bountiful Main Street

Local businesses have decorated their windows for the holidays and the street is lit up for Christmas. Take a stroll down Main Street to enjoy the window displays and all of the lights. Stop in at one of the delicious restaurants for a meal or dessert while you're there.

Bountiful Temple Neighborhood

One of the things that we do every year when we go on our light tour is to drive around the Bountiful Temple. The homes that circle the temple put out banners telling the story of the first Christmas and Christ's birth. It's a great way to remember the reason for the season and the perfect way to start off your holiday light tour each year.

Davis County Nativity

Centerville's Smith Park

Every tree in the park is lit up for Christmas and it is a gorgeous site to see! Add it to your Christmas lights drive or stop and take a walk through the park while the snow is falling.

Farmington Station Park

If you haven't seen Station Park's all lit up for the holidays, you are missing out!! The streets through the mall are lined with lights and Fountain Square is surrounded in lights as well. Grab dinner or dessert at one of the restaurants and walk around enjoying the sights and sounds of Christmas. Around Fountain Square, you'll find warmers so you can sit outside and enjoy the view without getting too cold. If you're feeling extra festive, you could go ice skating.

Elora’s Lights - Heritage Park Farmington

Take a walk along the trail that surrounds Heritage Park in Farmington (1591 N 1075 W, Farmington). Elora’s Lights have been set up in memory of Elora, a sweet little girl who passed away in 2017 from pediatric cancer. You’ll love the blow up decorations, lights strung around the park and a gorgeous tree completely covered in lights. Don’t miss out on this fun, local display.

Farmington Station Park Christmas Lights

Kaysville Main Street

The other night when I was driving to pick up dinner, I was in awe of the lighted trees lining the sides of Kaysville Main Street. If you're up for a short walk, maybe after eating dinner at Orlando's or catching a movie at the Kaysville Theater, this is the place to do it. Or, simply add it to the route for your Christmas light drive.

Lights on Sherwood Drive

This home's light display is a local tradition, and sadly one that we haven't yet participated in but plan to this year! For those of you who haven't participated yet, the light show runs from 5:30pm to 10pm nightly through January 1st.

Davis County Christmas Lights

Layton City Park

The light display that Layton puts together may be our new favorite tradition! You can walk through the park, drive around the outside or even participate in the Burger Stop Hayrides that benefit charity. I feel like the experience you get walking vs. driving is different, so we're planning to do both each year!

Fantasy at the Bay

I just recently heard about this Christmas light display at Willard Bay State Park. Everyone who's been says that it's the best light display they've seen and that they plan on doing it year after year. It's a little bit of a drive, but definitely worth the trip!

Temple Square Christmas Lights

Lights on Temple Square

If visiting Downtown Salt Lake during the holidays isn't already one of your family traditions, it really needs to be! Temple Square is an amazing sight to see during the holidays with lights, nativity displays and live entertainment nightly in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. This year there have been delicious food trucks parked on North Temple and South Temple nightly, and there so many fun activities for families to enjoy.

You should also jump on The Jingle Bus which drops you off at The Gateway where they have a big lighted tree, City Creek Center where you can view the candy window displays, The Gallivan Center where you can enjoy outdoor ice skating and Capitol Theatre where you can enjoy a show. The bus runs nightly from 5-10pm and is free of charge, courtesy of the SLC Downtown Alliance, City Creek Center, The Gateway and other sponsors.

You can make your Christmas light tour last throughout the week or enjoy it all in one night. Whatever you choose to do, make this tradition one that lasts throughout the years and make it whatever your family needs it to be. Date night, a family event, or even a special event with hot chocolate and Christmas carols. Christmas lights are a low key way to enjoy the holiday season!

Family Night at Pack's Pumpkin Patch

Two years ago, I took my 18 month old on a mommy and me date to Pack’s Pumpkin Patch. We needed a little one-on-one time in the midst of all of the adjustments we were making with a new baby at home and having just finished a three week stay in the NICU (she arrived eight weeks early). We had so much fun and I loved everything that Pack’s had to offer so I vowed to make it an annual tradition for our family.

Where: 1700 West Glovers Lane, Farmington
Cost: $6 per person (hay maze and pumpkin patch are free admission)

We tried two times to get to Pack’s earlier this month but sick kids changed our first planned outing and the thunderstorm earlier this week foiled our second adventure. The next night we were able to throw together a spontaneous visit and even though we were there in the middle of a big event, we had a lot of fun! This family owned farm has a lot of options for free family fun with additional activities for a small cost.

Because we’d only planned a short outing and needed to get our toddlers home to bed, we decided to stick with the free activities for our outing and it was perfect! I’m already wanting to go back and do it again before the season is over. Our toddlers could have run through the hay maze for hours and never tired. They stuck to one side of the maze and it was the less busy side so it worked perfectly for us. The hay is tall enough that kids of all ages aren’t able to see over but parents can see over the top to keep an eye on kids in other areas of the maze and help guide kids in the direction to find their way out when they’re ready.

After you’ve conquered the hay maze, you can participate in the paintball shootout, bump your way down a pvc pipe slide, roll in large tubes across a course, play in the corn pit or one of many other fun activities for a small price per family member. Like I said, we didn’t do any of those activities on this visit, but they looked like a lot of fun and were unique to Pack’s, not something that you’d find at every other pumpkin patch around town.

We made our way over to the pumpkin patch and roamed through the pumpkins with our kiddos. They had fun poking their heads through the photo op murals and loved sitting on the tractor that we found staged at the back of the patch. Our goal for the night was to go home with a few mini pumpkins that the kids could carry around and play with inside the house and we found those in the boxes near the barn. They also have a variety of squash and other fall produce.

Many nights you’ll find food trucks and other booths set up to enhance your pumpkin patch experience. Inside the barn you can purchase your pumpkins and a variety of other goodies, and have your photo taken to record your memory of the fun family adventure that you just went on.

Our kids had so much fun at Pack’s Family Farm and so did we! They were raving about it the entire drive home and those mini pumpkins are their current prized possessions. If we can fit in another visit before the season is over, we will and this time we’ll pay for the extra activities as well. No matter what, you can bet that this will be a family tradition for years to come!
